TEIZA's CEO and Co-Founder, Harpreet Singh Maan, was invited to speak at Nepal Rastra Bank's Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on Central Bank Digital Currency, held in Kathmandu on 13 August 2026.
The workshop brought together senior NRB officials and leaders from Nepal's banking and fintech community, as part of NRB's broader, Board-mandated study into CBDC. Harpreet was invited to contribute an independent, international perspective, sharing comparative lessons on blockchain architecture, tokenisation and CBDC design drawn from public central bank experience around the world. The session was intentionally kept general, educational and vendor-neutral.
What stood out
What stood out most was the seriousness of NRB's approach: a dedicated CBDC division, published research, a working prototype in development, and now a stakeholder consultation, before any commitment to a specific path.
“Deliberate, evidence-first sequencing that more institutions exploring CBDC could learn from.”
The legal backdrop
The workshop took place while Nepal's Parliament was considering the Nepal Rastra Bank (Third Amendment) Bill, which Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle tabled in the House of Representatives on 10 June 2026. The bill would add digital currency issued by the central bank to the Act's definition of currency. The House Finance Committee discussed it clause by clause on 3 August 2026.
We are grateful to NRB for the invitation to be part of the conversation.
