This week, the TEIZA team sat down with the leadership of the Labuan Financial Services Authority (LFSA) for a conversation about the future of the digital economy and Islamic digital finance.
We believe Malaysia is uniquely positioned to lead the next chapter of global Islamic finance, not only as a participant, but as the jurisdiction that sets the standards, builds the infrastructure and opens the doors for the world.
Labuan's track record
Labuan has played this role before. In 2002, Malaysia's US$600 million sovereign global sukuk, described by Euromoney as the world's first Islamic global bond, was issued through Malaysia Global Sukuk Inc., a special purpose vehicle incorporated in Labuan.
We left the room energised and aligned on direction, with a clear sense of what is possible when industry and regulator share the same vision. It is early days, but the right conversations are happening. More to come.
