ASEAN endorses a Malaysia-led framework for cross-border cloud computing.

ASEAN has endorsed a Regional Framework on Cross-Border Cloud Computing conceived, developed and spearheaded by Malaysia's Ministry of Digital through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). The framework was endorsed at the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting (ADGMIN) in Hanoi, Vietnam, in January 2026.

What the framework does

It sets out common principles for the legal and regulatory governance of cloud computing, to support cross-border data hosting while strengthening data protection safeguards across ASEAN member states. It introduces the concept of Trusted Data Corridors, and an addendum explores how the framework can be applied to finance and health, two heavily regulated sectors. It is designed to encourage adoption by member states.

Why we are watching it

At TEIZA, we are closely monitoring these developments so that our strategies stay aligned with regional digital integration.
